Introducing The Dog-gonnit! Plastic Bag Recycler

“I have long been impressed by these nifty plastic bag recycling baskets. In addition to being darn convenient both for repurposing an overflow of plastic bags and availability for dog poop pick-up, it is an elegant community builder. I always feel buoyed when I see bags in the basket. It signals to me a community that is working.”

Every day, people across the United States walk their dogs -- 78 million dogs in total.

Each dog owner must somehow dispose of her pet’s waste...

And it’s easy to forget to bring plastic bags with you.  Some parks help out by providing plastic bags...

But all the dispensers on the market have the same drawbacks:

  • The plastic bag refills are costly and bad for the environment
  • The dispensers are lightweight -- easily broken and vandalized
  • They clutter parks with extra receptacles and distract from the natural beauty

With the Dog-Gonnit! Plastic Bag Recycler you can turn your existing trash barrel into a pet waste station.

A Responsible Community
Like the penny tray at a checkout counter, it provides a “give a bag, take a bag” system whereby members of the dog walking community have easy access to poop-scooping bags as well as a place to bring their unwanted grocery bags from home.

You Save Money
You don’t have to keep restocking expensive bag refills.  And the dog walking community is now able to manage the bag station themselves.

Care For Our Environment
The basket is a recycling station that lets your visitors know that you are concerned about the environment and interested in spearheading green projects, which reduce the amount of plastics tossed into landfills.

Sturdy And Long Lasting
The baskets are practically indestructible and much less susceptible to vandalism than the dispenser alternatives. The wire construction means that the bags get wet when it rains, then dry quickly in the sun.

Fits Right In
And on the occasions that the dog walking community falls behind on the upkeep of the baskets, your garbage collector can tend to them on his usual trash rounds (cleaning out trash or re-stocking with the plastic bags generated from your own home or institution.)

Keep your grounds clean in a way that is cheap and sustainable.

Here’s what people are saying about the Dog-gonnit! Plastic Bag Recycler:

Nima Samimi is (was, now that I am retired) one of my employees at the Arboretum, one of the more creative ones I must say.  Nima devised a recycling basket focused on the needs of dogs in places like the Arboretum and their accompanying two-legged friends.  He has now come up with an expansion of that concept that I, owner and devoted subject of two lady beagles, think is pretty creative.  I know Ned is supportive for the Arboretum, and I hope you and your staff might give his proposal your finest consideration.  He is a fine friend of all of us who enjoy Boston's wonderful parks and open spaces, regardless of leg number.  I hope his ideas may add to that enjoyment.

Just a note to thank you for your thoughtfulness in adding a recycled-bag basket to the trash can at the Mendum entrance to the Arboretum.  As a regular Arboretum dog-walker, I am usually careful to come fully loaded with my own poop bags, but every once in awhile I forget, or I'm inspired to pick up a poop that another dog owner has missed, or I have a dreaded bag-malfunction, or the dog surprises me by unaccountably pooping five times in a row.  In other words, stuff happens, and it is so great to have a few bags on hand in the park to use.  I regularly see other dog walkers picking up bags there.  It's also nice for neighborhood folks with a few extra plastic bags on hand that they don't want to throw away or schlep to the grocery store.  It's a simple, low-cost, useful innovation that I think would be a great addition to any park frequented by dogs.

Thank you!!

I have noticed the bins with the plastic bags since I've been walking my dog almost daily in the Arboretum for the past 3 months.  Although I haven't used them yet since I carry a roll of bags, I know I have a backup in case I run out or forget them.  A much better option than just hoping she goes far away under the bushes!  I think all parks which draw a lot of dogs should have this available in an effort to help keep them clean.
